Your wildlife adventure in Assam is incomplete without a visit to the UNESCO Heritage site awardee Kaziranga National Park and the small but captivating Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary! A combined visit to both these parks gives you a thorough idea not only about the wildlife, but also the different cultures of various tribes living together in the state and also a brief understanding about the history of Assam.

Our itinerary, along with the wildlife safaris includes a wholesome experience of Assam - the hospitality and culture of the people of Assam, the traditional food and their everyday life. We visit the famous Kamakhya Temple, museums, go on boat rides on the mighty Brahmaputra, explore the white sandbanks in the middle of the river, spot dolphins, walk inside the magnificent tea gardens and explore how the world's best tea is made. We also visit the local tribal villages to interact with the villagers, try out their local cuisines, enjoy their music and dance to the local tunes. We visit an Orchidarium to know about the various orchids found in these regions. We stay with wonderful hosts who welcome our guests with open arms and happy hearts. 

Itinerary    (5 nights, 6 days)

Day 1

Arrival at Guwahati Airport
Depending upon the time of arrival, we either straight to Kamakhya Temple for Darshan (8:00 AM to 4:30 PM) or to the guesthouse and check in to the rooms
Sunset Boat Ride on the Brahmaputra
Visit the Mahabahu Brahmaputra Heritage Centre
Return to the guesthouse and have a good dinner and retire for the night

Stay in Guwahati

Day 2

If we are unable to visit Kamakhya temple on Day 1, we can go early today morning as well
Have a good breakfast and check out, and proceed to Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary by 10:00 AM
Check in to your rooms
Proceed for the Jeep Safari (1 Hr)
Come back to the resort for lunch
Go for bird watching and museum visit
You can then go for a beautiful boat safari on the Brahmaputra to spot river dolphins as well as visiting the sandbanks on the middle of the river
Come back to the resort to freshen up and sit around a bonfire discussion the day’s adventure

You can also enjoy a great Bihu dance performance by local troupe on the resort lawns.
Have an early dinner and retire for the night

Day 3

Check out and leave for Kaziranga by 7 AM after a light breakfast

As the journey will take over 4 hours, you can stop on the way for a bite. It’s a beautiful drive across the hills and plains of Assam, and as you approach Kaziranga, you get to see the wide expanses of tea gardens.
Check in to your rooms, freshen up and have a quick lunch.
Board the jeeps and start for the Safari in the nearby Agoratoli range which is well known for birds.
After the safari, enjoy a cup of tea by the roadside and return back
Freshen up and relax for the evening. Sit around the kitchen and learn how the food is cooked in the wood flame
A Jhumur performance can also be arranged, where you can join in with the dancers too.
Have a nice dinner and retire early

Stay at Kaziranga

 

Day 4

Wake up very early, have a cup of tea and go for the elephant Safari (optional)
After the safari, you can have breakfast at one of the many restaurants at Kohora
After breakfast, go for a quick visit to the Orchid Park to get a glimpse of the numerous varieties of orchids for in this region.  
We then can go for a visit to a traditional Assamese village to experience their way of life, their livelihood and their traditional food. Enjoy your lunch here.
We then go for our second afternoon safari at Kohora where animal sightings is very good.
You can do some souvenir shopping at various handicrafts shops at Kohora
Return to the resort for a nice evening relaxation.

Have a nice dinner and retire early

Stay at Kaziranga

Day 5

Wake up and have a lazy breakfast
Explore the nearby areas on cycles or take a walk around the resort
Check out before 12 pm and start your return journey to Guwahati, having your lunch whenever you feel hungry on the way.
Reach Guwahati by evening. You can either relax at the guesthouse or go for some shopping of the famous Assamese Silk (paat) items and handicrafts.
You can also try some restaurants serving good Assamese traditional food.

Day 6

Wake up and have a good breakfast
Check out and proceed to the airport for your journey back home, with your heart and mind filled with great memories.

The Kaziranga National Park has been the pride of Assam and definitely one of the highest tourist-pullers to the state. Home to one of the highest number of animals and birds, this UNESCO Heritage Site, Kaziranga contains significant breeding populations of 35 mammalian species, of which 15 are endangered. The Park has the distinction of being home to the world's largest population of the Indian Rhinoceros (2,401), wild water buffalo (1,666) and eastern swamp deer (468). Significant populations of large herbivores include Indian elephants (1,940), gaur (1300) and sambar (58). Small herbivores include the chital, Indian muntjac, Indian boar and Indian hog deer. Kaziranga has the largest population of the Wild water buffalo anywhere accounting for about 57% of the world population. The Indian rhinoceros, royal Bengal tiger, Asian elephant, wild water buffalo and swamp deer are collectively known as 'Big Five' of Kaziranga. 

Our itinerary of Kaziranga includes not only the wildlife, but we also attempt to take our guests through a wholesome experience of Assam - the hospitality and culture of the people of Assam, the traditional food and their everyday life. We walk inside the magnificent tea gardens and explore how the world's best tea is made. We visit the local tribal villages nearby to interact with the villagers, try out their local cuisines, enjoy their music and dance to the local tunes. We visit an Orchidarium to check out the hundreds of different types of Orchids found in the North East region. We go birdwatching. We go trekking to lovely locations. We spend out evening in the kitchen together and share stories and experiences, and learn how the traditional Assamese food is prepared. And as for wildlife, there are four different forest ranges to explore.

For up to 3 rooms, we have a wonderful heritage bungalow with a wonderful host, fantastic rooms with all modern amenities, good location, great food, a backyard farm, bicycles, indoor games, books and a wonderful team to interact with.

The Itinerary

Day 1

Leave early from Guwahati at 7:00 AM so that we can reach Kaziranga before 12:00 PM. A quick breakfast somewhere on the way, whenever you feel hungry. There are many places on the highway where we can stop.
Reach Kaziranga before 12 Noon. Check in to your rooms, freshen up and have your lunch by 1:00 PM
Rest a while and then jump on to the Safari Jeeps and leave for the afternoon Safari at Kohora range. Safari will take approximately 2 – 2.5 hrs. You will experience the beauty of Kaziranga wildlife in the golden hour, as the sun sets over the distant hills and the animals return home after the day’s adventures.   
Enjoy a cup of tea on one of the roadside stalls with some local snacks.
Come back to your rooms to freshen up.
Join the hosts at the kitchen outside and enjoy great conservations over cups of ‘Laal Saah’ as you learn about the local cuisines, the local culture and local folklore.
Retire early

Day 2

Wake up very early in the morning and go for the Elephant Safari. The beauty of Kaziranga early in the winter mornings is simply ethereal, with the slowly lifting fog and the sunrays creeping in and the animals moving out into the open to take in the sun. The safari will take approximately 1.5 hrs.
Return to the resort for a good breakfast.
Freshen up and get ready to visit one of the villages nearby. Meet the locals and interact with them to understand their way of living. You can have a traditional lunch at the village itself today.
Leave for a safari at the Agoratoli range today, which is a range preferred for Bird Watching.
Come back to the resort and relax for the evening

Day 3

You can afford to be lazy today.. have a lazy breakfast and leave for the Kohora for some souvenir shopping.
Visit the heritage village to understand about the different tribes of the region and their different cultures.
Also visit the Orchid Park to enjoy viewing and learning about the different types of orchids found in this region. Taste the big traditional Assamese Thalis with more than 20 different types of items and challenge your taste buds. Also enjoy great cultural performances, music the dances of this region at the park itself.
Come back to the resort to unwind over a cup of tea and freshen up for the evening
In case you missed the performance of Jhumur or Bihu dance at the Orchid park, we can get it arranged specially for you.
Exchange your stories with the other guests and retire for the night.

Day 4

Have another lazy breakfast and check out from your rooms
On your way back stop at the Hatikhuli Tea Eastate for a nice Tea Garden visit. Although you may not be able to visit the factory, we will explain to you the process how the best tea in the world gets prepared for these gardens and gets into your morning cuppa.
Start you journey back to Guwahati or any other destination. A nice lunch on the way and go back with wonderful memories in you heart of the nice time spent at Kaziranga.
